Specs are this site's own figures for Deriv's MT5 synthetic symbols. Always confirm contract size, point value and minimum volume in your own MT5 Specification window — broker accounts can differ. Prices shown are reference levels, not live quotes.

How to use the Deriv pip calculator

  1. Choose your Deriv symbol. The list contains Deriv synthetic indices only, grouped by family.
  2. Check the contract size and point value. They are filled in for you; change them if your MT5 Specification window shows different figures.
  3. Enter your volume in lots and your entry price. Add a stop loss and take profit price if you want their distances priced in dollars.

The big number is the dollar value of a 1-point move at your volume. Below it you get the value of one full lot, and the distance and dollar value of your stop loss and take profit.

The formula

Pip value = point value × volume × contract size.

The point value is the dollar value of a 1-point move on one unit of the symbol. Multiply by the contract size to get the value for one lot, then by your volume.

Worked example: Step Index

Step Index has a contract size of 10 and a point value of $0.10 per unit, so one lot is worth $1.00 per point. You buy 0.40 lots:

  • Pip value = 0.10 × 0.40 × 10 = $0.40 per point
  • A stop loss 50 points away costs 50 × $0.40 = $20.00
  • A take profit 100 points away pays 100 × $0.40 = $40.00

That is a 1:2 risk to reward on a $20 risk. Switch the symbol to Volatility 75 and the same 0.40 lots is worth only $0.004 per point, because its contract size is 1 and its point value is $0.01. The same lot size does not mean the same risk across Deriv indices, so recalculate when you change symbol.

Why a forex pip calculator does not work here

Forex tools assume a 0.0001 pip and a 100,000-unit lot. Deriv indices have neither. Boom and Crash indices have point values ten to a hundred times smaller than Volatility indices, and Step Index has a contract size of 10. Using a forex calculator for these symbols mixes up the units and gives a dollar value that can be off by orders of magnitude.

Frequently asked questions

Is a pip the same as a point on Deriv?

For synthetic indices, yes in practice: this calculator treats one pip as one point, a price move of 1.00 on the index.

Why do I get tiny numbers for Boom and Crash?

Their point value is small, so one lot moves only fractions of a cent per point. That is normal; their risk comes from spikes of hundreds of points, not from the per-point value.

Can I use this for forex or gold?

No. This tool only accepts Deriv symbols. Use the pip value calculators for forex pairs, metals and indices.
